Forvo Pronunciation App Reviews

I loved the Forvo website while I was taking French, and I decided to buy this app based on that experience. I was disappointed to find the app version is ungainly (you type a word then wait for it to tell you it doesnt exist, or to spit out a list of random similar words from other languages, all with broken links). Also the app crashes at startup at least twice, sometimes three times, but once its running it seems to be stable. I wish the app had less steps involved between starting it up to listening to a speaker. Its just too cumbersome to cost $2.99.

For a paid app, I am disappointed that it is unable to consistently perform searches without hanging. Too often it responds to clicking on a pronunciation by reporting that there is no internet connection when there clearly is. I should have stuck with the web site on my computer.

Always works and very helpful when traveling overseas. Cant recommend it enough.

Indispensable

I love this app!! I found there website by accident and it has been amazing! When I found out that they had an app I was like YES!! Missing!!!: they are missing the definition of the word. If they had it, I would totally give it 5 stars!!!

I have not had this app for long, but so far, on the iPad, it has been great. Helpful for proper names, too.I am using it for Italian.

Great website but not a great app for it. 1-no sign option 2-no record and submit words ability 3-what is the point of the "home" screen!!! This is stupid... Make a search bar the home screen.

But needs work. The previous reviewer said it all. But I needed some French pronounciations and found what I was looking for. Thanks.

This app does everything I need and any improvements would just be a cherry on top. Thanks to Forvo for creating a useful app to help facilitate the spread of such a great idea!

I got this in hopes of it being able to help me out on pronouncing the scientific names of plants. So it may not be able to help me on that but Im sure itll help me out in other areas so itll get 3 stars from me. Cant ding you too much for not living up to my expectation...that was kind if a high one.

I was hoping this app would allow me to save a word list like the PC version. It does nothing more then allow access to the Forvo sound files.

If they make these changes then it will be the best language app: 1. Saving vocabulary incorspondance with the language of origin. 2. Including the difinition of the searched word. 3. It could be just for specific langauges, however when I search the word δουλειά I get the pronounciation for both δουλειά (meaning work) and δουλεία (meaning slavery)! I would like if they make the search results a bit more specific when you change the position of the accent.

To register for an account you have to leave the $2.99 app and visit a separate web page to access your personal account at all. Would be helpful to have the definition listed also. Has great potential!

I cant understand why customers are upset with this app. Many arent pleased with a few trivial things involving the app, but it works practically as efficiently as the website! If you want to test if this app is for you, try the website on your desktop first. This is a great application for mastering pronunciation in foreign languages.

As a broadcast journalist, I must know the exact pronunciation of names, places and so on. I found this website and tried many names and it worked perfectly well. But I am still new to this app and hopefully will find this a perfect one for my work. Thank you.

The website is wonderful but the app does not allow one to access ones account or add pronunciations. Its only use seems to be listening. Not what Id expected. Not worth the cost, unfortunately.

Desktop version is great; not ONE word I searched on the app had any sort of pronunciation! I searched something simple like "flu" to see if it would work. Nothing worked. Waste of money and time.

Especially if you work with terms rooted in other languages (the wine industry for me) its perfect. I especially love the different audio file pronunciations from males and females from various other countries when you look up a word. One word gets up to dozens of variations to listen to.

I love the forvo website, so Im really disappointed that the app works so poorly. It freezes all the time, and even when my internet connection is strong, audio pronunciation only loads about a third of the time. If this is fixed, I could certainly give the app much higher marks. But as it is, its practically unusable.

The app works as intended. Id appreciate an iPad optimized version, specifically one that reorients. Id really appreciate being able to add to Forvo database from within the app.
